Meeting of the European Vision Institute Steering Committee

From 12-13 March 2018, the Steering Committee and Senior Advisory Board of the European Vision Institute EEIG (EVI) met in Basel in Switzerland.

Hendrik Scholl, IOB co-chair, is chairman of the EVI Steering Committee.

The EVI Steering Committee now includes

  • Prof Hendrik Scholl, Switzerland, serving as chairman
  • Prof. Camiel Boon, The Netherlands
  • Prof. Francesca Cordeiro, United Kingdom
  • Prof. Claus Cursiefen, Germany
  • Prof. Sascha Fauser, Switzerland
  • Prof. Sobha Svaprasad, United Kingdom

In addition, the Senior Advisory Board was installed with the following four members

  • Prof. J. Cunha-Vaz, Portugal
  • Prof. P. Luthert, United Kingdom
  • Prof. J. Sahel, France
  • Prof. E. Zrenner, Germany

Furthermore, Dr. Thomas Wheeler-Schilling serves as CEO of the European Vision institute.

Major themes of the meeting were the thematic and structural fragmentation of the European Vision Research and Ophthalmology community. What are future steps to overcome this situation? Core competences of the EVI should be kept and further developed. New initiatives by the Steering Committee will be announced within the coming months.

About the European Vision Institute

EEIG The European Vision Institute (EVI EEIG) is legally constituted under European law (Council Regulation (EEC) No 2137/85) as a European Economic Interest Grouping. EVI is not formed for the purpose of making profits. Its function is to carry out activities including but not restricted to research, technological development, organization, management, fundraising and publicity pertinent to the defined aims to safeguard the procedures for high-quality Vision Research throughout Europe and worldwide.
