World Sight Day Celebration 2023

On October 12th, IOB celebrated World Sight Day 2023 at the Novartis Pavillon in Basel with 100 guests.

That blind people could partially regain their vision was unthinkable until recently. But this is our declared research goal at IOB.

Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Botond Roska and Prof. Dr. Hendrik Scholl, our researchers are working on new methods that should make it possible to treat eye diseases for which there are currently no or only inadequate therapies.

As part of the World Sight Day event, Prof. Dr. Botond Roska and Prof. Dr. Hendrik Scholl spoke about the work at the institute, which aims to reach new horizons in ophthalmology thanks to its leading clinical and basic research.

Genetic engineering, a growing understanding of human biology, increased precision in imaging the eye, and its surgical accessibility open new therapeutic possibilities in ophthalmology.

The audience appreciated the closeness with the speakers and raised their numerous questions openly before closing the event with an aperitif and an organic dialogue in the unique atmosphere of the Novartis Pavillon.
